Number of individuals: 

1 (adult?)The wing bars lacked rufous color illustrated in Sibley's, and the bill was all dark with no yellow at base.

Iberville

5 miles north of I-10 along the eastern levee of the Atchafalaya Basin.

Partly cloudy, excellent light

as close as 30 feet.

Duration of observation:

45 minutes

Habitat: 

open levee with tree lined fields and farm land around. Lots of farm equipment in a storage yard near by. Fences to perch and feed from.

Behavior of bird: 

Activly feeding and working along the length of a fence that crossed the levee. Spooked from time to time with passing trucks. Would quickly return to feeding.

Description:

Medium large flycatcher that was mostly dark gray. Head uniformly dark gray from crown, down back, mantle and upper tail coverts. Tail dark. Throat slightly paler gray becoming medium gray chest then turning pale burnt red at the belly and into the under tail coverts. Bill all black, legs black. Wings looked dark when folded but pale edges.

Coloration eliminated other flycatchers.
