Full sunlight at midday.

Optical equipment: 

Zeiss 10x40 binoculars as well as a Canon 5D Mark II camera with 400/5.6 lens

Distance to bird(s): 

25 feet at closest point.

Duration of observation:

Altogether 30-45 minutes.

Habitat: 

Open farmland with short grass and fences.

Behavior of bird: 

Bird was seen at first sitting on a fence and occasionally flying down to the ground to catch an insect.

Description:

Bird had salmon colored belly, light gray breast and back with essentially black tail and bill.

Voice:

None

Similar species:

Somewhat similar to female Vermilion Flycatcher but the Vermilion is smaller and has a streaked breast.  When I first saw the bird I was making sure that it was not a female Vermilion because of the super bright midday sun.

Previous experience with this species: 

I had seen one once before in Louisiana on 3-12-05 near the Catahoula Lake Diversion Canal Structure.  Also, I have seen them in Texas on a couple of occasions.
