Light was diminishing with the setting sun in the west, but adequate enough to confirm identification

Habitat: 

farmstead with small corral surrounded by agricultural fields, manicured lawn, and weedy edges.

Behavior of bird: 

Actively sallying to the ground from the wire fencing and wooden posts in the general vicinity of the corral. Never ventured far from the corral during our stay.

Description:

An overall dark, attenuated flycatcher with dark gray-brown head and upperparts; head and wings being decidedly darker than mantle. Also contrastingly darker were the auriculars and loral area. The pale sooty-gray throat extended into the dark sooty-brown breast, which blended into the rusty-salmon belly and undertail coverts. The tail was relatively long and blackish with a slight notch. The relatively long, slender bill was blackish. Legs were dark gray-brown.

Similar species:

There are no similar flycatchers that are all dark dorsally and ventrally with tawny-cinnamon belly and undertail coverts.

Previous experience with this species: 

Ironically, third individual seen in LA in less than two weeks (10-20 October). Also, in the Western U.S. where I have seen this species on many birding occasions and during fieldwork.
