13. Habitat: Yard adjacent to a field

14. Behavior of bird / circumstances of observation (flying, feeding, resting; include and stress habits used in identification; relate events surrounding observation): Perching on fence, ground, and farm equipment; flying

15. Description (include only what was actually seen, not what "should" have been seen; include if possible: total length/relative size compared to other familiar species, body bulk, shape, proportions, bill, eye, leg, and plumage characteristics. Stress features that separate it from similar species): Approximate size of an Eastern Phoebe; grayish upper parts with slightly darker gray head; pale gray throat and breast; rufous-orange belly to undertail coverts; dark gray or blackish tail; white or pale gray wingbars; whitish edgings to the tertials, secondaries, and greater coverts; small, thin, dark flycatcher bill.

17. Similar species (include how they were eliminated by your observation): Female Vermilion Flycatcher can look superficially similar but is much smaller and has a different pattern and color to the underparts; otherwise a fairly straightforward ID when seen well.

19. Previous experience with this species: I’ve seen many times out west and several times in LA.
