Number of individuals: 

One adult male, subdued brown streaks on flanks and back. Pale red on head, back and tail.

2 to 4 minutes

Habitat: 

open yard on, then under a bird feeder,12' from a window of our house. There is a Pine tree within this area.

Behavior of bird: 

Calmly feeding on then under the feeder. The bird left within a very short time, it was not satisfied with the feeder and near by water.

Description:

The bird was clearly visible on the feeder. The crossed bill was very outstanding and the color and markings were totally unfamiliar to this yard. The Petersons field guide was at hand and the bird was quickly identified by its markings.

Similar species:

House fintch, too small. Cardinal, wrong color, crossed bill.
