13. Habitat: Brushy field with some tall pines and small
yaupons. |

(flying, feeding, resting; include and stress habits
used in identification; relate events surrounding observation): Bird may have
been at rest since it popped up from the ground or near the ground. It
responded to player playing Bachman’s sparrow song. It came up into leafless
or near leafless small trees, maybe 4 or 5 feet from the ground. It did not
appear to be agitated or frightened, just curious. |

characteristics. Stress features that separate it from similar species): This
bird doesn’t look like any other bird. It’s rufous cap and green tail are a real standout. The bird
was about northern cardinal sized. Not a plump bird, rather slim. |

By Mehaffey and myself. Mary located it and
then called me. Then I drove to location and observed the bird. |

this season in Plaquemines parish and in Tangipahoa parish. Before that, I
had never seen the bird at all. |
