Light conditions (position of bird in relation to shade and to direction and amount of light):

Sun to W, we were heading N, bird was to our NW.  Good light.

zeiss 10s, nikon d50 w/200 mm lens,

Distance to bird(s): 

20 yards? We were close to right under it in the car as it sat on wire.

Duration of observation:

Ca. 2-3 minutes

Habitat: 

Telephone wire in pastureland.

Behavior of bird: 

With a flock of Barn Swallows and Purple Martins perched on a wire.

Description:

Typical adult-looking Cave, with buffy throat and chin. Square tail obvious alongside the Barn Swallows. White underparts, dark uppers, with buffy rump.  The ID was easy, but I was keeping an eye out for traffic and trying to snap some pictures and didn’t concentrate on features beyond the key marks.

Pale rump and square tail KOs Barns, buffy throat eliminates Cliff.

Previous experience with this species: 

This bird is becoming regular and I have decent luck seeing them. My experience with them is moderately broad and keeps widening.
