Specific Locality: Elaine Bourque residence, Riverwoods Subdivision, 2.9km N Milton

 

Date(s) when observed: ID first confirmed (by EIJ) 28 Dec 2010, but Elaine thought it had been present possibly for up to a few weeks before then

Habitat: yard bordered by riparian/oak forest and pasture

Behavior of bird / circumstances of observation (flying, feeding, resting; include and stress habits used in identification; relate events surrounding observation): foraging at feeder, chasing other hummingbirds away (like Ruby-throated, Black-chinned, and Rufous)

Description (include only what was actually seen, not what "should" have been seen; include if possible: Dark blue-gray tail which it pumps while foraging, iridescent blue throat blending to green body; base of mandible bright red with reddish base to maxilla

Voice: chittery, Ruby-throated Kinglet like call or possibly even like sound of Inca Dove wings when taking flight

Similar species (include how they were eliminated by your observation): Buff-bellied Hummingbird and Berylline have rufous tail; Magnificent has iridescent green throat and dark body, White-eared has bold white stripe behind eye and iridescent purple face, throat and crown
