1 probable adult male in basic plumage initially. Beginning molt into alternate plumage in March sighting.

About 200 meters east of Paris Rd. x Hayne Blvd. across canal from levee.

Fair to good. Sun high and to observer's right.

Zeiss 10 x 40 bins

Distance to bird(s): 

8-10 meters

Duration of observation:

2-3 minutes each time

Habitat: 

Narrow band of spoil area next to borrow canal. Rattlebox and waxmyrtle with a couple of very small trees but no Live Oaks or other real trees. Adjacent to marsh.

Behavior of bird: 

Responded to Pygmy-Owl tape. Flitting around in small tree and scrub.

Description:

Warbler with yellow rump patch and bright yellow throat. Gray back with black streaks. White underparts with black streaking on flanks; yellow patches on flanks below anterior portion of the wings.

Voice:

Call notes on 10 March richer than Myrtle Warbler.

Similar species:

Yellow rump and yellow throat makes it D. c. auduboni.
