Fair Light but low intensity coming from behind the observers.

Zeiss 10 x 40 Conquest Binoculars

Approximately 20 feet

Habitat: 

Backyard Area with Hummingbird Feeder suspended from above a grape trellis

Behavior of bird: 

Bird flew from over the house and landed on the feeder with its back to both observers. However, Huner could see the face and side of its throat and Musumeche could not.

Description:

Huner - tubular body and irridescent green back from tail to bill - about 4" long based on size of feeding tube. Bit of a white "eyebrow" and a dark "triangle to the back of the eye with white patch immediately behind the eye. Bill was stout and straight. Could not see the throat well but it was whitish. Saw no rufous. Tail seemed short and wings did not extend beyond the tip.

Musumeche - saw a completely green dorsal surface including the crown. Tubular body with a very short tail and a stout black, round-appearing bill.

None Heard.

Similar species:

Costa's Hummingbird - size is smaller and bill is longer and less roubust.
